Our
current mural was created for the Kentwood Elementary School in
Los Angeles, California. This project will consist of two murals
that will adorn the interior side walls of the schools auditorium.
Both murals measure 6 feet by 28 feet and depict images of the students
participating in musical and theater arts. The project will also
involve local students attending Orville Wright Junior High and
Westchester High School campuses.
The Kentwood mural
will differ from previous murals that we have completed in that
the mural will be mounted onto wood panels that are 4' by 6' and
1inch to 3 inches thick. They will undulate in height on the wall
to create a mural that has a sculpture feel.
The first sketch that was
designed was the musical arts panels. The schools administration
wanted the images to reflect the music programs that they
teach in the auditorium. We started out with elementary students
and added images of Junior High and high school students.
The second sketch that was
designed was the theater arts panels. We pushed this idea
to encapsulate film, television and theater to make it more
whimsical.
Upon the administration's
approval, artist Bob Hernandez took his sketches back to the
drafting table to create the color compositions that will
become our color style guides. These style guides become our
paint by number layouts. During this process, the sketch images
are sent to our printer who begins printing the mural onto
the custom premanufactured wood panels.
The
painting sessions at Kentwood began on February 4, 2009 and
will continue through the 19th. Students from Orville Wright
Middle School visited the Kentwood campus assisting the students
at Kentwood. The students started on the musical themed mural
and completed them on February 17. This week students from
Westchester High School will visit the Kentwood campus to
continue working on the theater arts mural.
Students
from Westchester High School continued painting on the theater
arts mural panels. At this time the musical arts mural is
100% complete, while the theatrical arts mural is approximately
85% complete. We will now begin touching up the final panels
and prepare for installation.
